Financial Indecision: Framing Conversations to Elicit Action

Psychologists say it is common for people to feel paralyzed when facing a financial decision, especially one that involves a significant chunk of their assets. Their inaction is played out in many ways, often silently, invisibly and with potential consequence to an individual’s future financial security. In this session we will discuss how advisors can act when clients are paralyzed by ambivalence in the face of a financial decision. We will explore how to develop strategies, ranging from the obvious to the counterintuitive, to manage the ambivalence until it resolves itself.

Breakout Session - Energy Outlook

Energy Outlook: A spectacular turnaround in U.S. energy production — and demand for yield in an environment of persistently low interest rates — have led to increasing investor demand for shares of master limited partnerships (MLPs). In this dynamic session, a panel of experts will discuss the current American energy resurgence, and the opportunity it presents for investors. The first segment of the conversation will include analysis of key investment sectors within the energy industry and best approaches for capitalizing on them, including MLPs and traditional active fund management, and alternative vehicles. The second segment of the session will include discussion about the potential longevity of the energy boom and implications for investors. Session repeated at 11:10 am.

This sessions will provide behavioral insights and actionable ideas on how to confidently navigate the most critical conversations with their clients. With the use of a case study and role playing seek to identify different behavioral types and explore how to improve their financial situations and allow the advisor to provide continued value to his/her relationship with clients. Luncheon and Session - What to Know, What to Do

In this session during luncheon, BlackRock will share its 2014 market outlook. This year we created “The List” presentation, which is our guide to help financial advisors and clients understand the economic landscape and provide steps to position portfolios for the opportunities ahead. The List focuses on the critical five items you need to know and – most – importantly – five things you need to do to navigate the markets in 2014. We will challenge attendees to think about global issues and how they will affect their investments over the course of the year. Discussion of global market themes will include: geopolitical uncertainty, global economic growth rates, the interest rate environment, inflation and the job market.
